Demetrious Parker is a Senior Microbiologist for Curia Global in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Demetrious Parker was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Michigan State University in 2012. After a series of college campus-related jobs, he became a Food and Safety analyst for Neogen Corporation in Lansing, MI. This was a laboratory technician position that involved with running test samples on Neogen manufactured test kits to ensure device quality before distribution to food and drink manufacturing companies.
In 2014, Demetrious became a level 1 Microbiologist at Par Pharmaceuticals where the company mainly focused on generic sterile injectable pharmaceuticals and was dedicated to delivering quality medicines to patients in need through excellence in innovation, development, manufacturing, and commercialization. After Par was acquired by Endo Pharmaceuticals in 2015, Demetrious received multiple performance awards including the ENDO Star award for exemplary performance in Microbiological testing.
In 2019, Demetrious was promoted to level 2 Microbiologist where he focused more on validation testing and process improvement. He improved various existing test processes and was instrumental in creating new test methods for newly developed pharmaceutical medicines.
Demetrious joined a non-profit youth group the Potential Foundation in 2020 as Treasurer. Their purpose is to assist inner-city youth from low-income families and communities in any way possible. Helping others, especially the youth is one thing Demetrious has always been passionate about. He implemented a summer mentoring program that focused on driving Detroit youth to greater interest in STEM programs.
Today, Demetrious is a Senior Microbiologist working for Curia Global in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While working at Curia, he concentrates on project management and completing company laboratory goals. Demetrious is a diligent, hard-working scientist with a major interest in increasing the amount of black adolescents interested in STEM.
Overview: The habits of mind developed in STEM can help people at every level to deal more effectively with the total process of living as well-adjusted, intellectually competent, self-determining individuals. Without the ability to think critically and independently about problems that involve evidence, quantitative considerations, logical arguments, and uncertainties, we become easy prey for dogmatists, con artists, and purveyors of simple solutions to complex problems. STEM holds the promise of addressing 21st-century challenges in energy, environment, climate, hunger, health, transportation, and communication. STEM principles related to systems, components processes, and relationships give people a sound basis for assessing the use of new technologies and their implications for our future. During this workshop, panel experts will discuss how STEM careers are power seats, and the need for more inclusive representation at the tables where decisions are made.
